Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way: Walking, Castles & Countryside
9 days | 11 days with Galway extension |
- Group size
- 6–20 travelers
Take a walk on the wild side on the Emerald Isle
Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way stretches 1,600 miles along the country’s western coast, and this tour follows its most iconic parts. From your base in Killarney, you’ll walk through ancient oak forests and past glacial lakes in Killarney National Park, trace the shores of Muckross Lake, and marvel at the windswept heights of Bolus Head. In Westport, in County Mayo, you’ll walk the Croagh Patrick Heritage Trail and hike above Keem Beach on Achill Island, where golden sand curves beneath high cliffs and the Atlantic stretches to the horizon. And from Clifden, in the Connemara region, you’ll walk the Lower Diamond Hill trail and visit the iconic Kylemore Abbey. Along the way, you’ll stop for lunch at Ashford Castle—a 13th-century fortress set on 350 acres along Lough Corrib—and spend an evening at Glen Keen Farm watching sheepdogs work a flock. The trails are the draw—but so are the evenings: pints in centuries-old pubs, sheepdog demonstrations on working farms, and the particular ease that comes from spending a week among people who genuinely like having you here.
