Norway Multi-Adventure with Backcountry: Bergen & the Sognefjord
9 days |
- Group size
- 6–20 travelers
Landscapes this diverse call for all the ways to explore it
Viking-era waterside villages. Glacier-carved valleys. Soaring fjords. Norway's landscape is as varied as the ways to explore it, from hiking and biking to ziplining and kayaking, so we partnered with Backcountry to enhance your entire experience. Start in Bergen, whose colorful wooden homes line the harbor, then hike Mt. Fløyen, one of the city's seven peaks. Kayak the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord and trek the Jostedalsbreen Ice Cap — both Backcountry Signature Moments, complete with gear provided for each — before continuing to Voss, Norway's adventure capital. You'll see firsthand why Voss is known as Norway's adventure capital as you zipline through the Flåm Valley, gravel bike along the winding Rallarvegen road, and defy the Raundalselva's thrilling rapids. Rewards come in the form of stunning views, rejuvenating sauna sessions, and (it doesn't get more Norwegian) ice-cold plunges in fresh glacier water. One epic trip, two leaders in outdoor adventures teaming up to exceed every expectation you had of Norway.

Itinerary

Overnight flight
Day 1: Fly to Bergen
Your packing list is checked, your walking shoes are broken in, and Norway is waiting. Make your way to the airport and settle in for your overnight flight to Bergen — the week ahead is worth the journey. The week ahead is an exciting one, but try and get some sleep so you’ll be fresh and ready for the adventure ahead.
Bergen
Day 2: Arrival in Bergen
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Bergen, the gateway to Norway’s fjords and the country’s second-largest city. The storybook old Bryggen wharf was a trade center for nearly a thousand years, and its colorful wooden townhomes are so scenic, they inspired the kingdom of Arendelle in Disney’s Frozen. Stretch your legs after the long flight as you make your way around the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s narrow cobbled streets, lined with local artisan shops and galleries, before getting to know your fellow travelers over your first group dinner of the trip. Ease into Norway time and get ready to warm up your legs on tomorrow’s hike.
- Meet an EF representative at the Bergen airport and hop on a 30-minute transfer to your hotel in the city.
- Toast with a glass of beer or wine while getting to know your fellow adventurers and Tour Director during a Welcome Orientation.
- Keep the bonding going before a group Welcome Dinner in town.
Note: Airport transfers are included for travelers who book flights with EF Adventures. If you book your own flights, airport transfers may be available for a fee upon request.
